Hi! We're Jason and Lauren Pak! We're a personal training duo on a mission to bring a more grounded and reasonable approach to health and fitness.

We've been personal trainers since 2007, and throughout that time we've worked with thousands of people. We even owned our own gym for nearly a decade, and this facility was basically our laboratory.

We were able to test and experiment and really figure out what "works" (and what doesn't work!) when it comes to strength training.

All of this experience put us in a unique position to really understand what the average person needs when it comes to core training. All of the drills in Pursuit:Core have been tested and refined over the years - not just randomly selected and thrown together haphazardly!

What is Pursuit:Core?

Pursuit:Core is a 6-week core training program designed to build functional core strength in just 8 minutes a day. It focuses on strengthening the muscles that support your posture, balance, and overall movement, rather than just aesthetics.

How long does each workout take?

Each Pursuit:Core workout is just 8 minutes long, making it easy to fit into even the busiest schedules.

Do I need any equipment for Pursuit:Core?

We purposely designed Pursuit:Core to have minimal equipment needs so that it was accessible to as many people as possible!

That being said, there are some items we needed to include to maximize the effectiveness of the program:

-A yoga mat
-A stability ball
-A resistance band
-A few weights (light, medium, heavy)
-A bench or elevated surface (couch, ottoman, chair, etc.)
-Furniture sliders for under feet (or towels for wood floors or paper plates for carpet floors)

Who is Pursuit:Core suitable for?

This program is designed for everyone, from beginners to advanced athletes. We made sure to include modifications to suit all fitness levels! Not only are the modifications written down in the guide, but we also demonstrate them in every follow-along video!

How does Pursuit:Core differ from other core programs?

Most programs solely focus on circuits composed of crunching style movement to work on the “six pack” muscles. While that’s fine and will provide you with a “burn,” we haven’t found them to be all that effective since a) you can’t spot reduce fat and b) they’re not challenging enough to actually develop muscle.

By focusing on functional core strength rather than just aesthetics, you’ll find that you’ll be able to lift more weight and you’ll develop more total body strength – all of which will actually help you to make gains.

How does the 6 week program work?

The program progressively builds in intensity each week, ensuring your core muscles get stronger without hitting plateaus. You’ll find yourself thinking “I see what they’re doing here!” as we level up the exercises from week to week. For example, you’ll start off with a bent knee side plank in week 1 and progress all the way to a Copenhagen side plank in week 6!

What happens after the 6 weeks?

Once you complete the 6-week program, you have several options:

You can repeat the program. If you simply repeat the program starting back up on day one, you’ll find that you’ll be able to do the exercises with more ease, which can allow you to do more repetitions, take less rest, and choose fewer modifications.

You can pick your favorite weeks, days or even individual moves and have them be a part of your normal repertoire. Strive to do more reps, use more weight, etc. to ensure that you keep progressively overloading the movements.

You can pick the weeks, days, or individual moves that gave you the most trouble and work to improve them! Embrace the suck and shore up those weak links!
